The goal of this site is to help parents and families expecting a new arrival, or with a family well underway, be better prepared to document their lives with photography and video. This is a being produced as a project of The 1 Life 1,000 Words Foundation, a new organization that is still in the process of incorporating and getting non-profit status. Since the founder is a new parent himself we are a little behind, but with school starting soon more time will be available going forward to work on this.

The days of Instamatic cameras and cartridge film are long gone. Alas, it was much easier in many ways in the days of film despite negatives that got lost, prints that faded, and the cost of film and process. OK, maybe we don't miss it that much. Digital has taken over and while it is better in many ways, it has complicated things for many people too. Will be here to help you sort things out so you don't miss opportunities to make photographs.  

To help you we will turn to our own experiences as parents and photographers, and we will bring photojournalists and other experienced photographers into the community to inspire your picture making. For those times when you just can't make the best photos yourself because you need to be in the moment living your life we'll help you connect with people who can focus on photography when you can't. You probably didn't photograph your own wedding for the same reason, but you don't have to miss a photo if you plan ahead for all the important life events ahead of you. It might be maternity portraits, chronicling preparations for a new baby, the delivery and the first days after but it doesn't end there. Before long it will be birthdays, sporting events, performances, and graduations. In addition to preparing you to document these events and more we are also building a network of skilled photographers you can turn to. 

You might also cross paths with medical professionals on this site since it is a goal of the Foundation to bring them to the table too to help them appreciate the role of photography in the arrival of a new life. These professionals have their hands full with their primary role. While many have been helpful to us along the way they may not always be able to help, or they might hinder photography out of habit. We also want to help medical facilities that aren't photo friendly to see the light, and help you connect with facilities and medical practitioners who have.

As we ramp up this site we'll begin posting links to interesting articles and begin to produce our own content. We also invite your to submit links and stories. We'll be developing galleries of photos soon so you can see some of the images you might be making in the months and years ahead.
