We hope to get more families thinking about photography from the day they discover a new life is going to enter theirs' through this online community/web publication. A lifetime of photos can start earlier than you might think. If you're doing invitro you might get a photo of the eggs to be implanted. Then comes sonograms and doctor's visits. Preparing a room for a new occupant. Shopping for stuff and putting it together. Showers. Maternity portraits. More sonograms, maybe in 4D (3D to the rest of us). Getting ready for the delivery. Labor. Birth. And then everyday of the rest of their lives. At least for the time they're under your roof. Some of these moments aren't as easy to photograph as they could be. The medical profession seems more camera shy than a starlet. You should get some prints from the sonograms, but you'll get resistance to photos during the procedures. Many people would think labor isn't for photos, but we'd like to help you get past the Hollywood portrayal of labor to realize there are photos to make before during and after. Many parents aren't ready to think about much of this. It might have been years since you used a camera, if ever. Or you might have a pokey old point and shoot that still uses film. Should you switch to digital? What about video? There are lots of things to learn and we'll help you fit them in between reading all the baby books. We are parents who happen to be photographers. Some professionally, some as a hobby. There will be times when it makes sense to turn to someone else to handle the camera, but since most of us can't afford to adopt a photographer we want to help more parents discover their inner paparazzo. These days that also includes finding your inner geek. Most of us are already there and good geeks help others become geeks. If you'd like to write about your adventures as a camera toting parent, grandparent, or friend of the family let us know. See an interesting article we missed share with us so we can share with others. We'll also be working out the kinks to show you examples of photos to inspire you. The 1 Life, 1,000 Words Foundation's website goes into more detail on the organization's mission and progress. We are in the process of incorporating and filing for non-profit status so there will be a fair amount of news on that site that might not appear here. Well that's only 422 words. The remaining 578 will be coming soon.
